Whispers of Moonlight

Whispers of Moonlight by Lori Wick

Historically inaccurate—one of the many faults Lori Wick showcases in this so-so novel, the second in the Rocky Mountain Memories series. I shouldn’t begin a review negatively—she did, after all, probably spend a lot of time (and a lot of her heart, if she’s anything like me) on this novel. But—then why the lack of finesse?

Travis Buchanan supposedly married Rebecca Wagner for her father’s ranch. Unable to live with this probability, she left her husband after their week-long marriage for the small town of Pine Grove. After years of separation, an unexpected illness—and other complications regarding it—finally force her to contact her husband, who’s changed astronomically since she left.

The whole feel of this book felt like Mrs. Wick never got beyond the first draft. It wasn’t written very well, the plot wasn’t so great (but then, a plot that’s completely made up of romance probably can’t keep a reader on their toes too well), and the book was pretty predictable. Lori Wick did make sure her readers knew about Christ and His gift to us—she’s always been remarkable about that in her books.

The characters were passable, but certainly not brilliant, and seemed quite like Mrs. Wick’s other stars in her other books. (Of all the authors on my reading list, she’s probably the one I’ve read most of—even though her work never really impresses me.) For some reason Mrs. Wick always has to have her heroine be the most beautiful, the most attractive, and often sweet and innocent. Honestly? And where did the sub-plots go?

I can’t quite put my finger on this book. I liked it but didn’t. Thus, I give it the rating of . . .

  1. Haven't read this one. (Thanks for sharing, Hannah!) I used to LOVE Lori's books but given she hasn't written anything in years now, I've moved away from that "style" of writing.

    1. Yeah, I heard that she quit. I think I liked the first books I read by her--again, not that much--but I also don't like her "style." But I do like them because they can be a welcome break from having to think too hard in classics or something! They're usually pretty enjoyable :)

  2. I agree. This one wasn't my favorite either. I have noticed her how she portrays her characters as the "most beautiful" and don't get it either.

    1. :) Yay!

Ahem, sorry. I still did like it though :) Sometimes I feel like her books are just a break from other books. If that makes any sense. And it's nice to have the break.

    2. Wow I didn't see your comment when I posted my second :) It makes perfect sense, sometimes you a good rich classic book, other times you a light easy fun book. :P
